Some Neighbors (from everywhere) Who Came to Help

Besides the Builders for Christ and our church members, we had friends who helped us build the addition. I'd like to recognize some of those that I caught in photos.

So What's Going On?

Gene is hooking up lights today. Bruce helped him hoist them into place so Gene could complete the electrical connections. Ken has been working on the molding around the windows and doors. The HVAC people have a few more rooms done so ceiling tiles can be placed in them.

The BFC Workers

I'm not sure if this list is complete and I will have a future post with other volunteer workers from the area. If I made an error in a name, please write a comment so it can be corrected.

Tom & Chris the last to leave

Tom and Chris worked hard to get all of the suspended ceiling grids up on Friday with the help of Gary, Rich, and Bruce.  We were so happy that they made the commitment to get those up before they left. I know that they needed to be back to their family on Saturday. However, their camper did not want to leave us. Tom needed both his charger and a jump from his car to get it started. Dale from BFC showed up on Saturday morning to pick up one of the BFC campers. Lots of the wall outlets were installed today and a little more cleanup took place.

Goodbye John & Barb, Fred & Joyce, Dennis, Ron & Barb, Richard

It was hard to say farewell to our special brothers & sisters as they pulled out. Martin & Rose left very early and a small crew packed up the BFC tool trailer.
Tom & Chris are sticking around on Friday to help with our ceiling grids. The two of them were trying to teach Bruce on Thursday night the finer points of installation in case things don't get finished on Friday.
They are spending the night with Meihaks.

A Message from our Builders for Christ Project Managers

Consider becoming a Builder for Christ.
The HVAC people are almost done. The ceiling grids are in most of the classrooms and might be finished by Friday. (Thank you, Tom & Chris!) The camp site will be taken down over the next 2 days. Fred has almost completed the tiling project in the new restroom. The clothes are being washed for the trips home. Gary is painting store rooms.  Gene is wiring the lights.

the final week WITH builders

It is both a sad and joyous week. We have been blessed with having Builders for Christ with us for almost 12 weeks. Martin, Rose, Ron, and John have been here for the duration while Tom, Chris, and the two Barbs almost as long. This week we will say "until we meet again". Martin has been sure that he hands out the volunteer registration forms so that our members know that they can come to future sites to work together again.
Martin has managed to have mashed potatoes three weeks in a row but his chocolate chip cookie supply has run out.
While the builders depart, the members realize that the work is not finished. It is now up to he local membership to complete the finishing touches. Gary, Pastor, Deb, and Bruce have done a lot of the final painting this week but there will still be touch ups to do. Remember, if you criticize the job, you will be handed a paintbrush! Richard, Dennis, Tom, Chris, and others have been working hard on the ceiling tiles but they will not be finished since there are still some ceiling ducts to install. Gene is installing lights. Fred is doing well on the tiling in the restrooms. The ladies have done an excellent job on staining and sealing but our members will need to put on the poly. The concrete people are working on the new steps.

Freckles comes to church

I recently was reviewing our photos of the Builders and someone said that we were missing a picture of Freckles, Ron's hearing-assist can-do-canine. Freckles was always a hit with the kids. It was our last Sunday with the Builders.  Thank you for their work.

Weekly Update & Fish Fry

John Bubolz gives the weekly update on what has been accomplished as well as preparing the fish for our final fish fry of their visit. This will be their final weekend in Kasson.
Fred and Joyce Kuehl came from Litchfield to help install the tile in our restrooms.

Sparky gets a second nickname & Chris has a birthday

This week has seen more progress on the finishing touches. More of the ceiling grid is in place and a few of the lights are going up with them. Carol, Cindy, and others have been painting. The duct work is still not quite done so we need to wait on 3 rooms yet. Norman Melcher is here from Watertown for a few days to install doors. This weekend is his 50th wedding anniversary so we wish them much happiness. Ken is giving him some help. Chris is celebrating a birthday this week.  Fish Fry tomorrow night so please sign up and bring a dish to pass.
We had a visitor from off the street come in for a visit this week since she had noticed all of our activity. Sparky almost gained a second nickname this week by putting his foot through the ceiling in Pastor's office. No injury except to his pride. But someone mentioned the nickname "Bigfoot"

Door frames up

On Saturday, several members took on the tough job of pulling up the last of the carpet that had formerly been in Pastor's office. There was painting in the offices and some touch up painting elsewhere. On Sunday, had a slide presentation that showed all of the BFC workers and many of the members who have been working on the addition. On Monday, Tom seems to have finished the wall texture of the area outside of the offices so painting can proceed and a few of the door frames are in place. Pastor has a door!

About a week to go!

We are in the final stretch of our building project at Our Savior. I encourage people who are interested to come out for a day or even a half day and help out with painting, installing ceiling tiles, or cleaning. The ladies have been working hard on the staining and finishing of the woodwork and it will go up next week. Yesterday John and Martin made a dusty mess in the ladies room as they removed some tile. We spent time painting four rooms. I hope that you like the color because it runs throughout the addition. We have a fair number of hired labor in the addition now installing the heating/cooling system for the addition.
